What is orienteering?

Orienteering is a sport for everybody by its character and extent. It is modern, dynamic, easy, and with high effect on physical condition and relaxation. What is more, it is completely connected with nature. Everybody can participate regardless of age. Categories by gender, distance and level of orientation are available; from the age of 10 to over 65 years old, the ones born earlier.

The task of every participant after getting a detailed map at the start is to run a course drawn on the map in the shortest possible time. The course has a number of check points, which the participant is obliged to visit in the forest while choosing the best route across the terrain. The winner is a runner with the best time.

In Slovakia, there are 35 registered clubs and teams in foot-orienteering federated in the foundation Slovenský zväz orientačných športov (SZOS) with 650 members. SZOS organise competitions in all kind of orienteering – day/night foot-orienteering, ski-orienteering and mountain-bike orienteering.

I hope you have found this information captivating, and that you will not let it be without feedback. I am looking forward to meeting you in person among the viewers or in the competing field.
